Asbestos

This item is hazardous and requires proper disposal.

If you have suspected asbestos in a building, hire a certifed contractor to ensure personal safety, for regulatory compliance, real estate disclosures, and long term liability for exposing others due to it being an airborne hazard.

Go to the Bay Area Air District for information on asbestos compliance and enforcement. Learn about asbestos packaging, transportation, and disposal requirements through the DTSC. For asbestos health related questions, contact the CCC Health Services in Contra Costa County and the Healthy Homes Department in Alameda County.

A landfill must be authorized to accept asbestos wastes by its Regional Water Quality Control Board. Before you take asbestos to a landfill, call it to determine whether you need an appointment or whether they have any special requirements.

Asbestos is not accepted by the Alameda County HHW Facilities.
