Packaged Food - Expired/Non-working

Consider if the food is still edible by people: Deciphering Dates on Products or StillTasty. Then consider feeding animals - high quantity or volume - like pig farmers. Then feed the soil.

Depackage by hand, recycle empty, dry rigid plastics and metals, and compost edible materials. Contact your hauler if you need additional service. Commercial depackaging services are becoming more available for pallets, cases, and containers. Consider paying staff to depackage by hand to meet state regulations of keeping organics out of the landfill.

GP21 1221 3rd St Oakland Landfill Pick-up for a Fee We’ve worked with the largest distribution centers, grocers, and agricultural companies to find recycling solutions for organic waste. In cases of packaged foods, our team disassembles packaging, recycles plastics and paper, and directs food waste to be bio-digested. We use wet food waste for composting, mulch, or anaerobic digestion, which produces a biogas that can be used as fuel. Dry food waste can be sent to the bio-digester or, in certain cases, even used as animal feed. We always find local solutions for any food waste, partnering with composters and mulchers.
