Compostable Plastic Bags - BPI Certified Products

While BPI Certified Compostable Plastic Bags may be accepted in some curbside programs, many large-scale, municipal commercial composting facilities across California are screening out and landfilling all plastics (not just petroleum-based) as contaminants during the process.

Consider skipping the single-use compostable plastic bag and stuffing food scraps into unlined paper boxes (think cereal, crackers, or such), lining your compost bin with paper material you may already have - like shredded documents, newspaper, food-soiled paper, and do a quick wipe or rinse as needed.

Businesses in Alameda County: Use the Bin Liner by City Tool to determine what kind of indoor bin liner your trash, organics, or recycling bins can have based on what city your business is in.*This information may differ from the RE:Source City listings geared at residents.
