Consider online resale of good condition recent editions, or donation of good condition recent editions to community organizations like prisons. Recycle damaged, torn, out of dates book, completely highlighted/written in, and the removed hard covers. Small amounts of textbooks should be placed in a recycling bin at a time (<20). The binding on hard cover books is a major issue for textbook recycling as it is very challenging for the recycling machinery to process.
